The Highland Cottage

From the first beam to the last sunset view, here’s the story behind our tiny but mighty guest cottage.

Our farm stay over the garage was fully booked, and we wanted a way to welcome even more people to the farm. Rather than add just another bedroom or build a basic cabin, we saw an opportunity to create something small but thoughtful—an intentional space where guests could truly experience the charm of the farm.
We imagined couples waking up to Highland cattle just outside the front door, with nothing but open pasture and sky beyond. We pictured coffee in the mornings, slow afternoons, and evenings spent watching the sun slip behind the hills, blankets on laps, hooves in the distance, and not much else to interrupt the quiet.

Some things were non-negotiable: real electricity, water, plumbing, heat, and AC. Tiny living, yes, but with the comforts of home. Inside, we added details that made it feel warm and personal. There’s a handmade sliding barn door for the bathroom and a proper staircase to the loft, no awkward ladders here.

Guests often tell us how surprisingly spacious it feels inside. Maybe it’s the natural light through the windows or the stillness of the space itself, but something about the cottage encourages you to exhale.

We built The Highland Cottage to give people a place to be, not just to stay. To be still. To be together. To be tucked away, if only for a night, from the noise of everything else.
And every time someone tells us they felt that, we know we built it right.
