Tennessee Farm Stay: Fall at Little Tail Farms
Updated: 3 days ago
Summer is winding down here at Little Tail Farms, our small heritage farm on the Cumberland Plateau near Dunlap, Tennessee, just outside Chattanooga. We're starting to see the first signs that fall is on its way.
I love our Saturday farm tours and getting to introduce visitors to the animals, but I’ll admit there’s something nice about getting my Saturdays back for a few months. Our public Saturday tours run from March through October, so we only have a few weekends left this season.
But the farm certainly doesn’t close when tour season ends.

A Tennessee Farm Stay for a Weekend Getaway
If you’re looking for a Tennessee farm stay where you can experience an actual working farm, fall and winter are wonderful times to visit.
Little Tail Farms is a 50-acre working farm on Cagle Mountain near Dunlap, Tennessee. We’re within easy driving distance of Chattanooga and surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Sequatchie Valley.

We have two places to stay right here on the farm. The Highland Cottage is a cozy tiny home for two beside our Scottish Highland cattle pasture. Our Farmstay Apartment offers more room for families and small groups, with a private balcony overlooking the pasture and a large kitchen window looking out over the barnyard.
And the farm experience is part of your stay.
Overnight guests are welcome to explore the farm and visit the animals throughout the year. Depending on where everyone happens to be, you might spend your morning visiting goats and sheep, watching the miniature horses, saying hello to our alpaca or spotting our Great Pyrenees keeping watch over the farm.
And, of course, there are the Scottish Highland cattle.
Fall on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau
Fall is one of my favorite times here. The temperatures cool down, the leaves begin to change, and evenings on the mountain become perfect for sitting outside and enjoying the quiet.
If your stay falls on a Saturday during our March through October tour season, you can also join our Saturday Farm Tour and get an even closer look at life on the farm.
Once the public tour season ends, we continue offering private farm tours and our Up Close with the Highlands experience through the winter.

And Maybe a Little Snow
Winter has its own personality at Little Tail Farms.
Things slow down. The farm gets quieter. And every once in a while, if you time your visit just right, you may wake up to snow on Cagle Mountain.
There’s something pretty special about seeing Highland cattle standing in a snowy pasture from the warmth of a tiny cottage.

Whether you come for the animals, a quiet weekend away or simply a chance to experience a slower pace of life, you don’t have to wait until spring to visit.
The seasons may change, but there's always something special about life on the farm. We'd love to have you.
Not just a stay, a story.
